Theater lovers of all ages are in for a special treat when Baird Middle School’s Drama Club presents Annie on Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ludlow High School Auditorium. Under the direction of Baird Middle School Music Teacher Irene Pereira, Annie features a cast and stage crew that includes over 60 Baird Middle School students.
Based on the popular 1977 Broadway musical, Annie is set in New York City during the early 1930’s. Annie tells the story of a little girl who as an infant was left on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the evil Miss Hannigan. As Christmas approaches, Annie is able to take a welcome break from the “hard knock life” she leads at the orphanage when the wealthy Daddy Warbucks decides to take in an orphan for the holidays in hopes of bolstering his public image. Although Annie quickly adapts to her new life in the lavish Warbucks mansion, she still longs to meet her biological parents. Several plots twists develop as Warbucks vows to help Annie find her family.
Annie is the twelfth annual musical produced by Pereira at Baird Middle School. Her others productions at Baird have included Grease, Once Upon A Mattress, The Wizard of Oz, Bye, Bye, Birdie, and Cinderella’s Glass Slipper.
“There is no greater privilege than the trust of the students to allow you to mold and showcase their gifts to the audience," stated Pereira. "Seeing them take flight is a journey I never tire of.”
Baird Middle School Principal, Mrs. Stacy Monette added, “I cannot wait to see the Baird students and the results of their hard work! Annie is one of my favorite movies, and I am so excited to see our students in action. A huge thank you to Irene Pereira for her dedication in making this production a success!”
General seating tickets for Annie are $10 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door on the nights of the show beginning at 6:30 p.m. To purchase tickets in advance, please call Baird Middle School at (413) 583-5685 or visit the Main Office during school hours on Monday through Friday.
